Customer Spotlight

the Hollrock family

While at Maine-ly Apples we are careful not to refer to our long-time patrons as "old" customers, we can safely say that some are more experienced than others. On Saturday, October 11th we were visited by the Hollrock family. Richard Hollrock (age 87) and his wife Anne (85) traveled the length of the orchard picking their own apples and enjoying a beautiful fall day. Pictured above are three generations of Hollrocks: Richard and Anne, their daughter Joyce and their two grandchildren.

Maine Apple Sunday

Despite the rain, we feel that Maine Apple Sunday was a huge success. Thank you to all of our loyal customers who braved the elements and came to enjoy free pens, apple donut holes and cider, as well as samplings of Zestar, Prima, Honeycrisp, and various pears. Also, for those who didn't get a chance to enter our 3rd annual Turkey drawing, to be drawn on November 1, we will continue to take entries throughout the rest of the season.

Hand cider press in operation

A huge thank you to Mike and Judy Dann who brought their family's turn on the century, heirloom cider press for a demonstration (above). The strongest of volunteers took turns cranking the press, and then sampling the fresh squeezed cider.

Spring Plantings

This spring we planted a number of new trees. Because we are always on the lookout for new and exciting types of apples (as well as traditional varieties that we don't have yet), most of these plantings represent varieties that are new for us. Here is a brief description of many of them:

We also planted some top rated English cider apples that we will be using to make specialty ciders:
